Draft Coverage Reality Check

As the final whistle of the NFL season echoes into silence, the relentless buzz of the media machine doesn't miss a beat - pivoting with seasoned agility to the NFL Draft. The number of voices clamoring to be heard in this arena is staggering…

We’ve got traditional journalists at age-old publications, alongside the digital crowd of bloggers, tweeters, and everyone in between, all fighting for a slice of the narrative.

This Doesn’t Mean People Stop

Let's cut through the noise for a moment. The end of the season doesn't signal a pause for those whose livelihoods are woven into the fabric of football media.

Quite the opposite. The draft becomes their Super Bowl of content, an endless churn of analysis, speculation, and insight, all aimed at a handful of college prospects stepping into the NFL limelight.

I've ridden this carousel, shoulder to shoulder with analysts, writers, and broadcasters—friends and colleagues who've dedicated their careers to dissecting the game. And here's the inside track: not everyone's heart races for draft season.

It's an open secret that many in the industry view this period as a necessary evil, a stretch of time where the enthusiasm for the game is tested against the relentless demand for fresh takes on the same set of names.

Take Michael Penix Jr. For Example

Take a player like Michael Penix Jr., for instance—a placeholder in this conversation, but emblematic of the draft coverage conundrum. His every move, from combine drills to interview attire, will be magnified under the unforgiving lens of public scrutiny.

Positive spins, negative angles, and everything in between, all part of the draft discourse whirlwind. His journey from college standout to NFL draft pick will be dissected and discussed ad nauseam, with every pro day pass and team visit analyzed for hidden meanings.

This isn't to diminish the importance or the excitement that the draft process holds for many, especially those prospects whose lives are about to change irrevocably.

But for a considerable swath of the football media landscape, this time of year is met with a resigned sigh rather than a battle cry. They'll do their duty, covering the hopefuls and the hype with professionalism and poise, even as the repetition of the cycle weighs heavily.

It’s A Marathon For Some

So, as you dive into the latest draft analysis or click through to another feature on the top quarterback prospects, spare a thought for the person on the other side of that content.

Their passion for the game is real, but the draft season marathon is a test of endurance, a reminder that the love of football is a complex, multifaceted affair that doesn't always align with the content calendar.

In the end, whether you're an avid draft enthusiast or a casual observer, remember that the stories being told are not just about the athletes themselves but also about the people who bring those stories to life.

Their dedication ensures that even in the offseason, the spirit of the game remains vibrant and engaging, a testament to the enduring allure of football.

QB Musical Chairs

As we approach the whirlwind of free agency and the NFL draft, it's time to talk about the ultimate game of musical chairs: quarterback roulette. This annual tradition sees teams jockeying for position, making moves that will shape the league for years to come.

Rumors swirl as speculation runs rampant. Will Tua Tagovailoa ink a new deal with the Miami Dolphins? Could Baker Mayfield find himself in Tampa Bay? The possibilities are endless, and the dominoes are poised to fall.

The #1 Pick

At the heart of it all lies the Chicago Bears, holding the coveted number one pick. Their decision regarding Justin Fields will send shockwaves throughout the league. Will they keep him, or will they leverage his potential to secure additional assets?

Free Agency Looms

But it's not just the draft that's causing a stir. Free agency looms large, with Kirk Cousins, Sam Darnold, and Baker Mayfield among the names in the mix. The quarterback carousel is spinning, and teams are eager to secure their signal-caller of the future.

And let's not forget about the draft class itself. With a deep pool of talent, this year's quarterback prospects are drawing plenty of attention. While some may find themselves selected in the first round, others will have to wait their turn.

As the offseason unfolds, one thing is certain: the quarterback shuffle will dominate headlines. From draft predictions to trade rumors, the drama is just beginning.

Can I Coach You?

Can I coach you? It's a question I often pose to quarterbacks, but the truth is, it applies to everyone, regardless of profession or passion.

As we enter the early months of the year, it's a time for reflection and planning, a time to assess where we've been and where we want to go.

Grounded In Reality

In recent weeks, I've sat down with NFL and college players, dissecting every snap of their previous season, identifying areas for improvement, and setting goals for the year ahead. It's a process grounded in reality—setting measurable objectives and charting a course of action to achieve them.

Not Just QBs

But this article isn't just for quarterbacks or athletes. It's for anyone willing to take a step back and evaluate their own performance. So, can I coach you?

Take a moment to reflect on the past year—what went well, what didn't, and where you can improve. Identify three to five areas for growth and set a goal for yourself in the coming year. But don't stop there.

Next, outline a series of behaviors—neutral actions that you can commit to, regardless of how you feel. These behaviors should be focused on moving you closer to your goal, step by step, day by day.

So, can I coach you? The decision is yours. Just like every quarterback I work with, the ball is in your hands. It's up to you to make the plays that lead to success.
