3 NFL stats you will NOT believe...
Anything is possible in this league.
In the NFL, every week brings surprises, whether it’s breakout performances, shocking upsets, or unbelievable statistics.
That’s the beauty of this league—it keeps you on your toes.
This week, I came across a few stats that left me scratching my head - not just because it seemed improbable.
It’s a reminder that sometimes, anything is possible in the NFL:
Tim Boyle's NFL Journey
The Mahomes Paradox
Jared Goff's Stellar Stretch
The Wild Stat Behind Tim Boyle's NFL Journey
Let’s talk about Tim Boyle, the Miami Dolphins’ emergency quarterback this past weekend.
Yes, you heard that right.
Miami's starter Tua Tagovailoa was out, and backup Tyler Huntley got injured mid-game.
In comes Tim Boyle, stepping into one of the most unique situations a player can face.
What blew my mind, though, wasn’t just the scenario—it was a stat I had to double-check because I couldn’t believe it was real.
He Did WHAT In College!?
Boyle’s college stat line at UCONN? One touchdown pass and 11 interceptions.
Yeah, you read that right. One TD to 11 picks.
I saw this on social media, thought it was a mistake, and I had to look it up myself. Sure enough, it’s true.
Now, I’ve trained a lot of quarterbacks—guys with much better college numbers who never got a shot in the NFL.
And yet here’s Boyle, who not only made it to the league but is now on his fifth team in five or six years.
That’s something we all need to recognize—it’s not just about stats, it’s about perseverance, showing up, and being ready when your number’s called.
Find A Way To Stick Around
Think about it.
The NFL is filled with guys who’ve had storied college careers—Heisman Trophy winners, record-setters, guys who lit it up on Saturdays.
But when it comes to making it in the league, it’s often about more than just the numbers. There’s something to be said for the journey Tim Boyle has taken to even get to that emergency QB role.
Boyle’s stat line at Eastern Kentucky and UConn wasn’t pretty, but he found a way to stick around in the NFL.
Five teams in, he’s in the huddle on Sunday.
That, to me, speaks volumes about what this league is all about—resilience, adaptability, and being ready when called upon.
I’ve worked with guys who were NFL-ready from day one, and I’ve seen others who had to grind their way into even getting a chance.
Boyle’s story is a reminder that there’s no cookie-cutter path to the NFL.
It’s wild to think that a guy who ended his college career with a 12:24 TD-INT ratio could still carve out a career in this league, but here we are.

The Mahomes Paradox: More Interceptions, Still the MVP Favorite
We’re talking about a stat that really threw me off.
Patrick Mahomes, arguably the best quarterback in the league, has more interceptions than touchdowns right now…
Yet he’s still the odds-on favorite in Vegas to win MVP.
I had to do a double-take when I saw that.
The Stat Line Doesn’t Lie
Now, I’m not saying Mahomes isn’t worthy of the hype—he’s an incredibly special player—but the stat line doesn’t lie.
The Chiefs’ offense just isn’t what we’re used to seeing from them.
They’re down some weapons at receiver, Travis Kelce is having a quieter year (whether it’s age or lingering injuries, who knows?), and their offense has looked flat at times.
Still, the crazy part is they’re undefeated.
How? The defense.
That’s where I think we need to give the Chiefs some credit. Mahomes hasn’t been as sharp as we’re used to, but the defense is keeping them in games, allowing Mahomes to do enough to come out with the win.
An Unusual Start
But back to the interceptions.
It’s unusual, especially for Mahomes, who’s known for being this magician on the field, always making plays out of nothing.
I think some of those interceptions are him trying to force things, and part of it is probably just the lack of chemistry with some of the new receivers.
He doesn’t have a Tyreek Hill to lean on anymore. But even when it’s not clicking offensively, Mahomes is still the guy you want when the game’s on the line.
He’s still making those plays that matter.
Vegas obviously knows this, which is why they still have him as the favorite for MVP.
And you can’t discount the fact that Mahomes has set such a high bar for himself that even a slightly off year still puts him in MVP contention.
That says a lot about the kind of player he is.
The Scary Part
The fact that the Chiefs are winning games without Mahomes putting up his usual numbers might actually be scarier for the rest of the league.
It means they’re finding ways to win, and if Mahomes starts clicking again, they’ll be even more dangerous.
It’s one of those weird, mind-boggling stats—more picks than touchdowns, yet still leading the MVP race. But that’s the NFL for you.
It’s not always about stats.
It’s about finding ways to win, and Mahomes is still doing just that.
And if he starts heating up again, it could be lights out for the rest of the league.

Jared Goff's Stellar Stretch: Near-Perfect Passing and MVP Momentum
I want to talk about Jared Goff—because right now, he’s playing at an MVP level.
The stat that blew me away? In his last three games, Goff has only 10 incompletions.
Yeah, you read that right—10 incompletions.
And let’s not forget, Detroit isn’t out there running it 10 times a game and leaning on a ground-and-pound offense.
No, they’re throwing it 30+ times a game, and Goff is completing over 80% of his passes in that stretch. That’s just ridiculous.
Unmatched Synergy
If you’re not paying attention to what’s happening in Detroit, you need to start.
They’re 3-0 through that stretch, and it’s not because they’re simply lining up and running the ball down people’s throats.
That’s not how this league works. You can’t just run it all day in the NFL.
You’ve got to throw, and they’re throwing as much as anyone right now.
What’s impressive about Goff’s performance isn’t just the accuracy—it’s the synergy with his guys. Everyone is locked in.
For Goff to only have 10 incompletions in three games says as much about the offense’s execution as it does about his level of play.
Think about it—there are so many ways incompletions happen that aren’t even the quarterback’s fault: tipped passes at the line, great plays by defenders, dropped balls, or even a miscommunication on routes.
But none of that has been an issue for Goff and his crew lately. They’re just clicking.
MVP-Worthy
To me, Goff should be right up there in the MVP conversation.
He’s seeing the field so well, delivering strikes, and running the show in a way that’s making Detroit not just relevant, but a real threat.
It’s hard enough to have only 10 incompletions in one game, let alone three.
And that’s what makes this league so wild. One minute you’re hot, the next you’re not, but right now Jared Goff is as hot as they come.
It’s easy to overlook him, especially with all the hype around other big names like Mahomes or the rookies coming in, but what Goff is doing in Detroit is special.
He’s got the Lions rolling, and if he keeps playing like this, we might be talking about a real MVP run in Detroit for the first time in a long time.
So, there you have it—Goff’s efficiency, Mahomes’ TD to INT ratio, and the crazy stat of Tim Boyle’s college career.
It just goes to show, in the NFL, anything can happen
